I would just like to pay my respects to a true hero. I have been a great admirer of Gunny Hathcock for a long time. I've read the book, seen the video, and a framed painting of him hangs proudly on my wall. He inspired me on joining the Marine Corps and I served in the Infantry for 4 years. I would just like to thank him for his sacrifices and his total dedication to this nation and to our Corps. Semper Fi, Gunny Fair Winds and Following Seas

I have been in a Marine for 3 years and briefly heard stories of Gunny in Boot Camp all throughout my term, however this is the first time that I heard that he passed away. I agree that although, a Marine he was also a gentleman and a scholar. He is surely to be missed. I know he has left an impact on my life.
Although I never knew this Marine hero, he has my utmost respect. I have read the book "MARINE SNIPER", among other books and viewed the video "GUNNERY SERGEANT CARLOS HATHCOCK, MARINE SNIPER LEGEND". Ever since reading about him, it has been a goal of mine to one day meet him, to talk to him one on one, and to get his autograph. ( a goal that now, unfortunately, won't come true). Marines everywhere will remember "gunny" Hathcock when they talk about great Marine heros. SEMPER FI GUNNY !!!!!

This is to Mr. Hathcock's wife. I can't begin to tell you of the sorrow I feel for you. I know I don't have to tell you how great a man Mr. Hathcock was while on this planet. I never had the privelage to meet the man, but I will always honor him in my heart. I hope you are able to find the peace in your heart that you deserve. Thank you for being his wife

I started shooting in part thanks to Mr. Hathcock. His words of wisdom and dedication to marksmanship and the Corp made a thirteen year old think twice about my actions. I am now 24 i will always look back on what a positive impact he had on me. Thanks Gunny.

I never actually had the honor of meeting Carlos, and I dare to use his first name as friends would, not because we were but because we could of been. It saddens my heart to hear of his passing on, and though we never met face to face, through his book, and books about him we meet heart to heart. I will miss him as a fellow marine, and friend. To you Carlos thank you for all you have done for me, though you never met me, it is you who inspired me to join the marines, this saved my life for had I not joined I would probably be dead in some stupid gang war. I don't imagine you were the type of person who liked flattery but I must convey my thanks to you for saving my life. To Carlos' family you have my most sincere condolences on your loss, he was and still is a great man. Still affecting lives even ones he never knew because they knew him he changed and saved our lives. To God please take care of our fallen comrade and watch over his family as a shepard watches over his flock, in Jesus name I pray Amen. God bless you Carlos and the country you fought to save.

I just finished reading "Marine Sniper" by Charles Henderson and decided to try and find out more about Gunny Hathcock. I did a search on Yahoo.Com and found your page. I was a Marine from 1983 to 1991 and I am proud that I once belonged to the same organization as GySgt Hathcock.

Well what can you say, he was a hell of a shot as well as a hell of a man. I only wish that I could have known him or at least talked to him in letters. I have read his book, and everything I can on him. He is my hero. Also, ever time when I having a hard time doing something and I feel like I am not going to make it, all I got to do is remember that time after he was burned when he was founded at the shooting range passed out behind his rifle bleeding from where his skin had busted open in that shooting jacket, and it gives me the strength and courage to go on. And finally if he where here today I'd like to shake his hand and tell him that he was a hell of a man and also a hero to billions of people like myself.

I was on Hill 55 during the 69-70 time frame and Carlos and the other snipers use to fire off the High Tower adjoining the POW Camp that I was at. I have read his book. I remember the stink that was created when one of the snipers shot the Kit Carson Scout that was walking point for one of the Marine patrols outside the wire.

I think about Carlos all the time, I can't help it I have his pictures and books everywhere. A picture of the two of us hangs over my computer. We met at a Wisconsin Rifle & Pistol Assoc. show and dinner. I heard him speak, later we talked together about Nam and had our picture taken. That picture and the "LONG TRANG" hat that I got from him are two of my most prized possessions. I'll never forget that evening. I'm amazed that god could fit such a giant of a man into such a small body. My world is a much sadder place with his passing, but at last his suffering is over. Rest in peace Gunny.

I served in the Marine Corps for eight years. Four active and four reserve. I am a desert storm vet. I also have read one of Gysgt. Hathcock's book. I was very sad to hear of his death last year. I hope all the young snipers in the Corps keep up his tradition.
