I Will Remember

This is a stirring essay written by a 10 year old boy in California for school about the tragedies on September 11, 2001. I felt that it was more than appropriate to place on our sites as a reminder of the feelings that we all shared on that day and every day since.

I Will Remember

What the....how can this be happening? We were getting ready for school. The date was September 11, 2001. I'll' remember that day for the rest of my life. My mom came home from her night job and told my dad to turn the TV. on to CNN. I knew it must be really really important if mom was letting us turn on the TV before school. The scene I saw on the news show looked like it was from a movie. We watched the replay of not one but two airplanes slamming right into the side of the world trade center in New York City. It could not be real, I stopped in my tracks and froze. I couldn't move, think, or even hardly breathe. It was like I was rooted to the living room floor like an old oak tree. Through the fog in my brain I heard my dad quietly say, "Come on guys dad definitely has to get to work now." He physically turned me toward the door and tugged on my arm to get me moving. We both took one last glance at the TV. Before shutting the door.

The tragedy that struck the U.S.A. that day was just plain mean. I mean what did we do to you? I was and still am as angry as a mad bull in a rodeo. You terrorists obviously have a brain the size of an atom. Do you know what will happen to you, when the U.S. goes to war? We are so angry, that we will tear you limb from limb, like a condor ripping meat off of a carrion. So be ready for war! No matter how you torture us, we will still stand. So we can torture you. We will send most of our military and bomb you. We will invade your country, and your dreams. Everywhere you look the U.S.A. will be there. We will even be places you can't see. Waiting, lurking, watching, for just the right moment. Then we will strike! We will be your worst nightmare! So terrorists beware of the U.S.A!

Can you tell how angry I am? Or maybe you are wondering how I know all of this. Mainly from watching the news. Also I know this from what I learn in school. I know this because I am an American. For the first time in awhile my sisters, brother, and me didn't argue over where we would sit as we drove my dad to work the day of the tragedy. My parents drove and rode in silence as we all listened to the radio. Events continued to happen all the way to school. My mom dropped me off at the curb, and said "Have a good day, I love you." She smiled and waved then said, "Don't worry, dad's at work." So I thought to myself, "yeah my dad and his friends are at work everything is going to be ok." So I know we are going to get even with you terrorists, because you see my dad is a U.S. Marine.
