We could never be apart
You are There because You are Here for Me

The Call
Laine Estep

There she sits, by the phone
Willing it to ring,
Needing to hear those words of love
She knows that call will bring.

The hours pass, but pass so slow
And still there is no call
From her love so far away
As the tears start to fall.

Once again, the days drags by
She knows it's part of life
Spending days and nights alone
When you're a military wife.

He goes because it is his duty
To protect the freedom of this land
She prays that God will keep him
Safely in His hand.

She kisses her children, tucks them in bed
And watches them as they sleep
She never knew that loneliness
Could ever run so deep.

She's had no word for three long weeks
She doesn't know if he's OK
She knows there is but one thing to do
And that one thing is Pray.

God must have been listening
As she bowed her head just then,
Because the phone started ringing
As she whispered "Keep him safe, Amen."

Before he hangs up the phone
She whispers, "I love you".
Her heart soars with joy again
When he says "I love you too."

There she sits by the phone
Not wanting the call to end
But thankful for the chance
Her love to him to send.

No matter where they are
They are never far apart
It take more than distance
To separate their hearts.

For they were joined in love
And they meant those words for life
That has a special meaning
When you're a military wife.

The Marine and His Wife
Barbara Bates

A Marine by day, he stands the watch alone.
A man by night, dreaming of wife and home.
At home she waits, as hours give way to days.
Sometimes she cries, as alone in the night she prays.

He thinks a lot of freedom, that's why he joined the Corps.
He wanted to be all he could be, and then a little more.
She married the man she loved, committed to him for life.
Knowing it wouldn't be easy, being a military wife.

The days in the field were long, the nights were longer still,
But he was born to serve, duty was his will.
Steadfast by his side, though thousands of miles away,
Unconditional support, she gave to him each day.

He loved her with a passion; for her he'd gladly die.
He'd sell his soul in a moment, just to look inside her eyes.
She lived her life for him, each and every day.
Waiting for his return, her love so far away.

He was a United States Marine, some said she was but his wife.
But she was his strength, the very inspiration of his life.
No matter the distance between them, they were never apart.
He was the Marine, but she gave him the heart.

The Marine Corps Child
Author Unknown

I am the child of a United States Marine.
My hometown is nowhere, my friends are everywhere.

I grew up with the knowledge that home is where the heart and
family are, with no dependence on the dwelling.
Mobility is my way of life

Some would wonder about my roots,
Yet the yare as deep and strong as the might oak

I sink them in quickly, absorbing all an area has to offer
And hopefully giving enrichment in return.

Travel has taught me to be open,
Shaking hands with the universe.
I find brotherhood in all people.

Farewells are never easy.
Yet even in sorrow comes the strength and ability to face
Tomorrow with anticipation.

If when I leave one place, I feel that half of my world has left,
I also know that the other hald is still waiting to be met.

Friendships are formed in hours and kept for decades.
I will never grow up with someone, but will mature with many.

Be it inevitable that paths part,
There is constant hope that we will meet again.

The Military Wife
Author Unknown

The good Lord was creating a model for the military wives and was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared. She said, "Lord, you seem to be having a lot of trouble with this one. What's wrong with the standard model?" The Lord replied, "Have you seen the specs on this order? She has to be completely independent, possess the qualities of both father and mother, be a perfect hostess to four or 40 wit han hour's notice, run on black coffee, handle every emergency imaginable without a manual, be able to carry on cheerfully, even if she is pregnant and has the flue, and she must be willing to move to a new lovation 10 times in 17 years. And oh, yes, she must have six pairs of hands." The angel shook her head. "Six pairs of hands? No way." The Lord continued, "Don't worry, we will make other military wives to help her. And we will give her an unusually stong heart so it can swell with pride in her husband's achievements, sustain the pain of seperations, beat soundly when it is overworked and tired, and be large enough to say "I understand" when she doesn't, and say "I love you" regarless."
"Lord," said the angel, touching his arm gently, "go to bed and get some rest. You can finish this tomorrow."
" I can't stop now," said the Lord. "I am so close to creating something unique. Already this model heals herself when she is sick, can put up six unexpected guests for the weekend, wave goodbye to her husband from a pier, a runway, or a depot, and understand why it's important that he leave."
The angel circled the model of the military wife, looked at it closely and sighed, "It looks fine, but it's too soft."
"She might look soft," replied the Lord, "but she has the strength of a lion. YOu owuld not believe what she can endure." Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek of the Lord's creation. "There's a leak," she announced. "Something is wrong with the construction. I am not surprised that it has cracked. You are trying to put too much into this model."
The Lord appeared offended at the angel's lack of confidence. "What you see is not a leak," He said. "It's a tear."
"A tear? What is it there for?" asked the angel. The Lord replied, "It's for joy, sadness, pain, disappointment, loneliness, pride and a dedication to all the values that she and her husband hold dear."
"You are a genius!" exclaimed the angel. The Lord looked puzzled and replied, "I didn't put it there."

The Rusty Marine

The rusty Marine, born gallant and brave
To his country, his allegiance raised.
He served in war to honor and protect
In battle he did not defect.

Through foxholes, trenches, gunfire and hell
His honor and pride never fell.
For in his heart, his faith was strong
Yet for home he did long.

Now he sits, tired, forlorn
For his youth he does mourn.
Because it ran so quickly by
He often thinks, "How time did fly."

Then he dons his old dress blues
And in his spirit, a change of hues.
He straightens up and stands with pride
His great honor, he can not hide.

Then he begins to gently weep
The memories come, pile upon heap.
A single tear falls from his eye
As he whispers, "Semper Fi."

The Soldier's Wife
Caroline Franklin Berry

When she was a girl, her dreams were bold, as bold as her fine, free gaze;
And every gift of grace and mind was hers in her younger days.
When she was a girl, a golden girl, with a sould as fine as fire.
She could outshine the brightest jewel that a rich man's love might buy her.
Yes hers could ahve been the glittering path through a careless, carefree life,

But she fell in love with a soldier, so she became a soldier's wife.

Away from the home of her childhood she marched at her husband's side,
For she chose a wide and winding road when she became a bride.
And somtimes the road was a hard one, so different from what she had planned;
And sometimes she wept for the home she had left as she lay in a foreign land;
And sometimes her steps would grow weary as she followed the drum and the fife;
But she set about making the world her home because she was a soldier's wife.

She learned to build a hearth for them wherever her man was sent;
And she knelt to plant a garden every time he pitched their tent.
Yes, she always planted a garden though she never saw it grow,
For she knew before the flowers came that she would have to go.
But she left each garden gladly though it cut her like a knife,
For she hoped it might bring some comfort to another soldier's wife.

To the hardships in her married life she brought one simple truth,
A promise that once was spoken in the ancient words of Ruth:
"Wherever you go, I will go. Wherever you lodge, I will lodge;
They people shall be my people and thy God shall be my God."
She shared his joys and sorrows as they made their way through life,
For she was proud to love a soldier and to be a soldier's wife.

She bore the weight of worrying what fate might hold in store;
And the wordless fear of waiting when her soldier went to war;
And the nights that she spent fearing that her waiting was in vain;
And the pain of wanting someone she mihgt never hold again.
But she bore his children gladly through uncertainty and strife,
And they never heard her crying for she was a soldier's wife.

She raised a soldier's family with the faith her love had taught her;
And she gave the pride she had inside to her son and to her daughter;
And she taught them to love freedom and to know what it was worth,
As they helped her plant her gardens in the corners of the earth.
And she never wished for better than the road they marched through life,
Because she was as much soldier as she was a soldier's wife.

Unimagined Devotion

Cammies, dog tags, covers and such
I never knew I would ahve to learn so much.
A whole new language I have learned
After a college degree I had already earned.

Knowledge is never ending
Never standing still in the Corps
There is always something to learn here
And we always must learn more.

I have learned to appreciate distance
For it is al we have ever known.
We stand to reap the just rewards
For the fields of love that we have sown.

I never question his devotion
I know he serves two masters
His all protective Lord and his Corps
To protect him from all disasters.

If I ever questioned his love for me
I could have never married this man.
What makes me love him so much more
Is the fact he takes a stand.

He stands for all that I believe
He loves me with all his heart
I love him with both his masters
And I dare him to ever part.

My husband has two masters
But he never loves me less
For the fact God gave me a Marine to love
I am eternally blessed.

U.S. Marines

You can keep you Army khaki,
You can keep your Navy blue.
I have the worlds best fighting man,
To introduce to you.

His uniform is different,
The best you've ever seen.
The Germans call him "devil dog,"
His real name is "Marine."

He was born on Parris Island,
The where God forgot.
The sand is eighteen inches deep,
The sun is blazing hot.

He gets up every morning,
Before the rising sun.
He'll run a hundred miles and more,
Before the day is done.

He's deadly with a rifle,
A bayonet made of steel.
He took the warrior's calling card,
He's mastered how to kill.

And when he gets to Heaven
St. Peter he will tell,
One more Marine reporting sir,
I've served my time in Hell.

So listen all you young girls,
To what I have to say:
Go find yourself a young Marine,
To love you every day.

He'll hug you and he'll kiss you,
And treat you like a queen.
There is no better fighting man:
THE UNITED STATES MARINE!

We could never be apart.
Author Unknown

Although we are apart,
I am never really apart from you.

Even though distance separates us,
And time finds us on our own individual paths,
Every day, I sense that we are together,
In daylight or in dreams.
For kindred souls like ours,
Can never tryuly separate.

Being apart from you,
Is something I cannot be...
For you are part of me.

You are There because You are Here for Me

I hear a noise in the dark
I turn to hug you tight.
But then I remember you are gone
For one more lonely night.

I know it's not your choice
But I know it's your career
You sometimes have to leave me
So I do not live in fear.

I have only to walk into the hall
To see just where you are.
Your heart is still right here with me
Though your body is so far.

You worked to be able to leave me
I knew that when I married you.
But I knew you had such honor
And to the Corps you would be true.

It sometimes makes me sad
When you are not there to hold me tight.
I know you do what you have to
So all my world is right.

I watch you as you leave in the morning
And as you come home to me at night,
Hoping the time will never come
When your life ends for someone's right.

But you are a Marine, my love
And your job calls you away.
So I know you go for me my love
So that no hard comes my way.
